Background

Decades of corruption and authoritarian rule have inflicted deep wounds upon our nation, leaving our people trapped in poverty, our democratic institutions in ruins, and our natural heritage plundered. The erosion of democracy reached a tipping point with the unconstitutional dissolution of the Cambodia National Rescue Party in November 2017, followed by the unjust arrests of opposition members and human rights defenders, and the shuttering of the independent media.

Our Impact

Our fight is fought on many fronts— fact-checking to cut through narrative noise; gathering reliable data to survey the situation on the ground; advocating for policy change, coalition building around common goals; and leadership training for the young people who will guide Cambodia’s future.

SOCIAL JUSTICE

Corruption and disenfranchisement have fueled widespread inequality. Government and police complicity enable cyber slavery, deforestation, and illegal mining, while education and healthcare access decline. Supporting a fair legal system and democratic accountability can ensure all Cambodians share in a prosperous future.

ECONOMIC EMPOWERMENT

Debt traps, brutal evictions, and forced labor have allowed bad actors to profit from land theft and the exploitation of Cambodian workers. These gross injustices reverberate daily for people inside Cambodia. Through our advocacy, we protect land rights, support legal protections for migrant workers, and close the loopholes that reward corruption.

POLITICAL PROGRESS

The court system silences dissent while corruption runs rampant. Profits-first cronyism lets China gain a military foothold, displacing populations and undermining sovereignty. We advocate for sanctions and judicial reforms so Cambodians can speak out without fear.

Our Programs

We know that we face an uphill battle in our efforts to achieve democratic reform.

But we also know that nothing is out of our reach—especially when that reach spans the globe. By working both within and beyond Cambodia’s borders, we harness the collective power of the global Khmer community.
