In response to the February 2026 United Nations report, the Khmer Movement for Democracy (KMD) expresses grave concern over the severe human rights violations, including human trafficking and torture, occurring within online scam centers in Cambodia. This crisis is not only an inhumane act but is also profoundly damaging the honor and dignity of the Khmer nation on the international stage.
KMD believes these crimes have flourished due to systemic corruption and the protection provided by powerful individuals, allowing transnational criminal groups to use Cambodian territory as a safe haven. Therefore, KMD urges the government to abandon superficial for-show crackdowns and instead strictly enforce the law by permanently closing these centers and prosecuting all involved officials without exception.
Finally, the government must demonstrate genuine political will in rescuing victims according to international standards to avoid economic sanctions and diplomatic isolation that would harm the livelihoods of Cambodian citizens. The Khmer Movement for Democracy will continue to monitor the situation and advocate for justice, rights, and freedom for the entire Khmer nation.
